My team studies the application of computing tools to measuring and managing infrastructure in industrialized and developing regions, including energy and building systems, but also transportation, water, and sanitation systems. In our work, we develop and apply analytics and machine learning techniques to embedded, Internet-of-Things, mobile, and satellite-based systems. The Lab works on a diverse slate of topics with a heavy focus on sub-Saharan Africa, including the connection between electricity and economic growth, smart electricity grids, electricity demand stimulation via organic consumption growth and conversion of non-electric loads, and measurement of infrastructure quality using remote sensing techniques.
